As a metro line in Ho Chi Minh City is due to be constructed at the current central bus station’s location so it will be moved to a nearby place next month, the municipal transport department said.
The Ben Thanh Bus Station, located near Quach Thi Trang Roundabout opposite Ben Thanh Market in District 1, is slated to be relocated to Ham Nghi Street in August, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport.
Thirty-one bus routes are expected to be changed this July to suit the new location and passengers’ convenience, the department added.
The relocation is for the construction of the metro line connecting Ben Thanh Terminal in the downtown area with Suoi Tien Terminal in District 9.
The metro line, breaking ground in August 2012, the first in Ho Chi Minh City, is estimated to cost US$2.49 billion and designed to be 19.7 km long, running from District 1 through Binh Thanh District, District 2, District 9 and Thu Duc District in the city before reaching Di An Town in neighboring Binh Duong Province, according to the municipal Urban Railway Management Board.
