A Vietnamese artwork has recently won a prize at a film festival that kicked off in the Philippines late last month.
“Cuoc Doi Cua Yen” (The Life of Yen) grabbed the Grand Festival Prize, which was among nine main category contenders at the World Premier Film Festival held in Manila.
Produced by the Vietnam Feature Film Studio, the film tells the story of Yen and Hanh, two children who grow up together and get married at a very early age as arranged by their parents.
The handiwork of Vietnamese director Dinh Tuan Vu is based on the script “Vang - Da” (Gold - Rock) by writer Ho Hai Quynh, reflecting the cruel reality of society in 1945 when women suffered a lot of hardship.
“Cuoc Doi Cua Yen” won five prizes at the 19th Vietnam Film Festival in December 2015, including the Silver Lotus Award for best actress in a leading role, best music score, best cinematography and best production design.
It was also screened in Vietnam in early January this year.
The film festival, the third of its kind in Philippines, is scheduled for June 29 to July 10, attracting over 60 international movies to partake in.
Other awards included the Grand Jury Prize, Special Festival Prize, and Special Jury Prizes that went to the films “Daughters of the Three Tailed Banner,” “Redha,” and “By Accident,” respectively.
