VietJet cancels flight after passenger used 3 oxygen cylinders

VietJet cancels flight after passenger used 3 oxygen cylinders

Tuesday, November 17, 2015, 17:22 GMT+7

Vietnamese low-cost carrier VietJet Air had to cancel a flight on Sunday due to a lack of oxygen cylinders after a passenger on a preceding flight used up three cylinders due to a respiratory problem.

The passenger in question was Nguyen Van P., who got aboard Flight VJ286 from Ho Chi Minh City to the northern city of Hai Phong on Sunday without reporting his health problems to the carrier staff.

During the flight, P. suffered difficulty breathing, so the crew had to use three of the four oxygen cylinders they had aboard to stabilize him.

When the plane landed in Hai Phong, the carrier coordinated with competent agencies to give special care to P.

Because of the incident, VietJet Air could not carry out the next flight, VJ287, as it did not have enough oxygen cylinders necessary for that flight, which was delayed until Monday morning.

The incident affected hundreds of passengers and caused great damage to the carrier, a VietJet Air representative said.

“We put the life and safety of passengers above all else. However, we request that passengers suffering or having a history of cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, strokes, heavy respiratory problems and other serious illnesses report such health conditions to our staff when buying tickets so we can give them the necessary consultancy and assistance,” the representative added.
