A wide range of activities are ready in Vietnam’s big cities to entertain people during the Unification Day (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1), the country’s national holidays.
In Hanoi, an exhibition titled “Chuyen Cua Nguoi Dang Lon” (As We Grow Up) is going on at the Museum of Vietnam Ethnology.
Also at the venue on Nguyen Van Huyen Street in Cau Giay District, a series of folk games from ethnic groups like Si La, Cong, Gia Rai, Ba Na and E De are being held.
A water puppetry show, to take place at the museum from April 30 to May 4, will be a magnet for children.
During the holidays, more than 20,000 book titles will be on display at the book fest titled “Dai Tuong Vo Nguyen Giap - Ngon Nui Lua Phu Tuyet” (General Vo Nguyen Giap – the Snow-Covered Volcano) held by Thai Ha bookstore and Kim Dong publisher at Savico Megamall at 7 - 9 Nguyen Van Linh Street in Long Bien District.
The Central Circus at 67 – 69 Tran Nhan Tong Street in Hai Ba Trung District will join to celebrate the two days with the “Circus Festival” program featuring animal tricks and other performances inspired by fairy tales.
The “Nuoc Mat Dan Ong” (Men’s Teardrops) comedy will be brought on stage at 8:00 pm on April 30 at the Youth Theater at 11 Ngo Thi Nham Street in Hai Ba Trung District and 8:00 pm the next day at the Hanoi Opera House at 1 Trang Tien Street in Hoan Kiem District.
Meanwhile in Ho Chi Minh City, two shows featuring circus and music performances will be open to the public for free at 8:00 pm on April 30 and May 1 at Gia Dinh Park on Hoang Minh Giam Street in Go Vap District.
Another free show, “Tu Mua Xuan Lich Su” (From the Historic Spring), will take place at the HCMC Labor Culture Palace at 55B Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street in District 1 at 9:00 am on April 30.
Sen Hong Stage at 23/9 Park in District 1 will bring complimentary music to the city’s audiences at 7:30 pm on April 30 and May 1.
Circus lovers will also have a chance to enjoy their favorite art at the Street Circus Festival held by Dam Sen Cultural Park from April 30 to May 4 at 3 Hoa Binh Street in District 11.
The “Sai Gon Xua Va Nay” (Saigon in the Past and Present) exhibition is being held at Union Mall at 72 Le Thanh Ton in District 1. The event showcases ancient cars and motorbikes, ao dai (traditional Vietnamese gowns) and photos depicting the southern city from the past to the present. It will run until May 10.
Local drama theaters have also joined hands to cheer up the holiday atmosphere.
Superbowl Theater at A43 Truong Son Street in Tan Binh District, for instance, has increased its number of seats from 200 to 320 to meet the increased demand of audiences during their days off, while other stages have added extra shows to their regular schedule.
Cinemas across the country will screen many foreign films like “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Amazing Spiderman 2 – Rise of Electro,” “Iceman,” “She Devil,” and “Adventure.”
Vietnamese movies “Bi Mat Lai Bi Mat,” “Xui Ma Hen,” and “Than Tuong” will offer more choices to film lovers during their holidays.
