-- Voters in Vietnam have sent their requests to the ongoing 10th meeting of the law-making National Assembly, asking authorities to issue adequate policies for cooperating and dealing with nations like China to ensure national sovereignty and security.

Society

-- Dao Ngoc Duc, captain of the Vietnamese fishing boat DNa 90370, has reported to the coast guard unit in the central city of Da Nang that dozens of his fishing nets had been destroyed by Chinese fishing boats when he cast the nets in the common fishing area of Vietnam and China in the Gulf of Tonkin, some 40 nautical miles from the Southeast Asian country’s Con Co Island. Damage was estimated at around VND300 million (US$13,300).

-- The Ho Chi Minh City police department is running a campaign to prevent traffic jams in the downtown area that will last from November 16 to February 15. Police officers mainly focus on four common violations, including illegal parking on streets, encroachment of streets and sidewalks, driving in wrong lanes, and drunk driving.

-- Dong Nai Province in southern Vietnam has had a new deputy director of the police department. He is Lieutenant Colonel Le Hoang Ngan, 33, who is the fifth deputy director of the police department.

-- A team of around 10 rascals often gather around Mien Tay (Western) Bus Station in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City to cheat and rob passengers of money. Most of the rascals are drug addicts and some have just finished their jail terms.

-- Around 2,000 young people recently joined a race in the southern province of Binh Duong Province to raise funds and promote the construction of clean restrooms. The event was co-organized by the World Toilet Organization and the People’s Committee of Binh Duong.

Business

-- Foreign investor Mark Ronald Richards has complained that authorities in Da Nang City had made unfair decisions to revoke the investment license of his project.
