Swiss astrophysicist Michel G. E. Mayor is ready to answer dozens of questions regarding the universe and life outside the Earth during his live chat this late afternoon, April 25, from Vietnam.
The online talk, held on the sidelines of an international scientific conference the Swiss professor is chairing in the coastal city of Quy Nhon, is scheduled to begin at 17:00 (1000 GMT).
Mayor, professor emeritus at the University of Geneva's Department of Astronomy in Switzerland, will be joined by Vietnamese Associate Professor and Doctor Phan Bao Ngoc during the event at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education in Quy Nhon.
Born on January 12, 1942, Mayor earned a master's degree in physics at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland in 1966 and later obtained his doctorate in astronomy at the Geneva Observatory in 1971.
In 1995 Mayor discovered 51 Pegasi b, the first extrasolar planet orbiting a sun-like star, 51 Pegasi.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ngoc, 39, became a lecturer at Hue University, located in central Vietnam, in 1997 after his graduation from there.
He obtained his master’s degree at the France-based University of Paris VI in 2000 and completed his doctorate at the same school.
Ngoc used to do his post-doctorate at the Taiwan-based Institute of Astronomy & Astrophysics before returning to Vietnam, where he currently teaches at the Ho Chi Minh City International University.
