Police in northern Quang Tri Province, with the aid of their Lao counterparts, have arrested three armed Laotians that were carrying 10 heroin cakes from Laos to Vietnam.

>> Police seize six for trafficking marijuana from Laos >> Men seized for carrying 5 cakes of heroin On Tuesday evening, a joint police force stopped a group of suspicious men who were attempting to cross the Lao Bao border gate to enter Vietnam. A few members of the group fired at the police and fled into a forest nearby, while three others were arrested later. Police seized 10 heroin cakes about 3.5 kg, a K59 gun and nine rounds of ammunition. All three are residents of the Lao province of Savanakhet. They told police that they had bought the heroin in Vientiane and wanted to bring it into Vietnam for sale. Vietnamese police have handed the three traffickers over to their Laos counterparts for handling. In related news, police in Quang Tri the same day raided a house in Ward 1, Dong Ha City and detained Tran Van Sang, the house’s owner, after finding 27 small packs of heroin in his house. In late May, police in central Thua Thien-Hue Province cracked down on a ring that trafficked marijuana from Laos to Vietnam’s central city of Hue, seizing six traffickers and 7 kg of marijuana.

In order to avoid detection, they hired a stevedore to bring the cannabis into Vietnam through the Lao Bao border gate. They later brought the drugs to Quang Tri’s Dong Ha City before continuing on to Hue.
