An audio clip titled “Nhat ky huong duong” (Sunflower diary), made by volunteers of “Uoc mo cua Thuy” (Thuy’s dream), a Tuoi Tre-sponsored program to raise donations for cancer kids, has moved many public members to tears.

The 12-minute clip, posted at “Uoc mo cua Thuy”’s Facebook, tells the moving story of how Le Thanh Thuy, a bone cancer patient with the nickname “Sunflower”, combated her illness before passing away in 2007, and her burning dream of helping cancer kid patients.

The second installment of the series, the clip features several lines from Thuy’s blog, which she herself read out during her last days. The program members called on to netizens to share the clip.

The first installment, introduced last month, depicts a grief-stricken mother whose child has just died of cancer. The volunteer group spent some five days on each installment.

“We plan to launch a radio clip every month and on holidays and special occasions and post them on our Facebook and YouTube. Hopefully the clip will help better promote our charity program “Uoc mo cua Thuy”, get more people to help the cancer kids and realize Thuy’s wishes,” shared Nguyen Kieu Linh, 21, a three-year member of the group.

Linh’s mother also lends a hand with the two clips and presents gifts to the child patients.

“For cancer child patients” fest to run in HCMC and Hanoi

The event, jointly put on by Tuoi Tre newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi Youths’ Associations, will take place in HCMC and Hanoi on Nov 10.

The event, which marks the 6th anniversary of Le Thanh Thuy’s death and foundation of the “Uoc mo cua Thuy” charity program, will run from 8AM to 9PM at 23-9 Park in district 1, HCMC and from 8AM to 4PM at Hanoi Students Cultural House, 37 Tran Binh Trong street, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi.

Participants will hand out gifts to some 800 cancer child patients who are receiving treatment in 10 hospitals in HCMC, Da Nang, Hue, Nghe An and Hanoi, present 140 scholarships to the recovering patients, visit Thuy’s tomb and make and set paper sunflowers afloat.

The event will also feature such activities as blood transfusion, counseling and talk on cancer prevention and treatment, exhibits, market sessions and exchanges.

Donations can be sent to Tuoi Tre’s bank account, 102010000118248 and those interested can take a look at www.facebook.com/umct.uocmocuathuy.
