Tropical storm Rammasun will enter the eastern area of the East Vietnam Sea, bringing bad weather to Vietnam after passing through the Philippines this Wednesday, the Vietnam National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center has warned.

The powerful storm’s movements will bring widespread rain to northern provinces and may also cause landslides and flashfloods in mountainous areas, the center said on Sunday..

The storm will also cause strong winds and heavy rains in the Central Highlands region and southern Vietnam.

At 7:00 am this morning, the storm was centered about 1,000 km east-southeast of the Philippines’ Luzon Island, packing winds of 89-102 kph and gusts of up to 133 kph.

The storm is moving mainly east at a speed of 25 kph and will be more powerful during its course.

At 7:00 am on Tuesday, Rammasun will be located east of the Central Philippines with stronger winds reaching 133 kph and squalls of 150-183 kph.

The storm will later change its direction to go west-northwest and move slower at about 20 kph.

At 7:00 am on July 16, Rammasun will lie in an area south of Luzon Island, packing the same strong winds.

Due to the storm, as of this coming Wednesday, the eastern area of the East Vietnam Sea will experience rough waters and winds of 50-74 km, which will increase to 75-102 kph in areas near the storm’s eye.

As of July 17, the seas of Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) in the East Vietnam Sea will be rough and exposed to strong winds of up to 74 kph and gusts of 75-102 kph.

This is a storm that is powerful, moves quickly and may develop in a complicated manner, the center said, urging the attention of concerned agencies and people.
