A number of foreigners who are living and working in Da Lat, the tourist city of Lam Dong Province in the Central Highlands, have joined a blood donation campaign launched by the provincial Red Cross. Yesterday, more than 300 young people and a number of tourists donated blood to the campaign that is scheduled to last for a week starting on Monday. The blood drive was located in front of Yersin Da Lat University in Da Lat City. Among the foreigners who donated blood was Steve Brering, an American man who is visiting Vietnam for the first time. “Blood donation is a good deed. My friends and I have donated blood to the campaign to help patients who need to be given blood transfusions,” Steve said. Do Hoang Tuan, deputy chairman of the Lam Dong Red Cross, said the agency expected to collect about 200 units of blood during its first day of the campaign. More locations for blood donation will be opened throughout this week to receive blood from about 2,000 donors who have registered to join the campaign, Tuan said. It is expected that about 1,000 units of blood (1 unit = 250 millimeters) will be collected through this campaign, he added.
