Stilts are an indispensable item in Jun village, Yang Bac commune, Dak Po district in the central highlands province of Gia Lai.
“In the old days, villagers went across streams and swamps formed in the rainy season using walking stilts. Now, stiltwalkers are seen in competitions and festivals. Stilt is a traditional character of the Ba Na ethnic people that villagers could not forget,” Cho Ron, patriarch of Jun village, said.
“All villagers know how to use stilts. But even the oldest people in the village don’t know when stilts were first used,” he added.
