Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan yesterday told her German guest that Vietnam wishes to further strengthen cooperation with Germany and commits to using Germany’s ODA in an effective manner. Ms. Doan made the statement during her reception for visiting Chairman of the German Bundestag's Committee on Foreign Affairs, Ruprecht Polenz, in Hanoi Thursday. The State Vice President thanked Germany for its official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam and affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to using the aid efficiently in prioritized areas, such as boosting sustainable development, improving vocational training and health care, and coping with climate change. She expressed her pleasure at the positive developments in the Vietnam-Germany strategic partnership, which are partly attributed to great contributions by the two countries’ legislators.  The two countries’ legislative bodies have carried out various activities to strengthen their mutual understanding and trust and improve each side’s operating results, she said. The State Vice President also said both sides should step up the implementation of their joint projects, such as the German House and Vietnam-German University in HCMC. Chairman Ruprecht Polenz said Germany would continue to promote cooperation with Vietnam, especially in education and vocational training. On the same day, Polenz had a talk with Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan, who expressed his pleasure at the strong and rapid development of bilateral relations since Vietnam and Germany established their strategic partnership.

Nhan thanked the German government for facilitating the lives and working conditions of more than 130,000 Vietnamese in Germany.

In reply, Polenz told Nhan that he was very impressed by Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and hoped that the Vietnamese government would continue creating more favorable conditions for German entrepreneurs to operate in the country.
