While numerous contestants of the ongoing children singing contest The Voice Kids of Vietnam chose English songs for their performances, 10-year-old Phương My Chi stunned the show with her sweet performance of Vietnamese southern folk song “Que Em Mua Nuoc Lu” (My motherland in flood season).

In the second episode of the reality show broadcast on VTV3 last week, Chi with her emotional voice convinced all the four coaches who believed she had real talent and turned their chairs to see her.

“I thought a little girl like you couldn’t deliver your feeling through every word of the song like that. You must be a filial kid who has been through many sad stories of your life. I saw sadness in your voice,” coach Hien Thuc who scored Chi on her team commented after the performance.

Another coach, Thanh Bui thanked Chi for performing the song which reminded him about his childhood.

“This year I’ve seen a lot of kids singing both English and Vietnamese very well, and today you perform it amazingly,” Thanh Bui added.

For her part, Chi said she loved sweet and peaceful melodies so she decided to pick up a southern traditional.

“My aunt was a traditional music singer. She now can’t be on stage due to her illness which causes blurred vision. I’ve learned day by day from her,” Chi explained why a young girl like her enjoys singing folk songs.

After delivering her song on the show, the girl from Ho Chi Minh City received positive response from audiences who have been amazed and in love with her performance.

“I got goose pimples at the very first note she sang. I am happy to see a Vietnamese child singing pretty good a Vietnamese traditional song at a time when everybody keeps shouting out English songs on stage with a very bad pronunciation,” viewer Xuxu exclaimed.
