56-year-old Nguyen Van Oc, from Thot Not Ward in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, was Wednesday sentenced to two years behind bars for stealing a mobile phone from the Argentinean ambassador to Vietnam. Oc’s pickpocket of Mr. Alberto Jaime Kaminker was discovered thanks to a photo snapped by the Venezuelan ambassador to Vietnam while they attended the East Asia-Latin America street festival held on April 9 as part of the 2012 Hue Festival in the central city. The photo shows Oc pretending to hold a camera in one hand while putting the other hand into the pocket of the Argentinean ambassador to steal his phone. The proof was later handed to the organizers, and province police managed to catch the thief a few days afterwards. Oc confessed to police that he had managed to pinch assets from three tourists participating in the 2012 Hue Festival prior to robbing the Argentinean envoy.
