Tuoi Tre recommends some entertainment events for the first weekend of 2014

Hanoi

- American alternative folk musician Shane Palko will perform at 8pm on January 3, 2014 at Hanoi Social Club at 6 Hoi Vu Street.

- The Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents will screen two movies “Sideways” at 7:30pm on January 3 and “Little Miss Sunshine” at 2pm on January 4 . The center is located at 51 Tran Hung Dao Street.

- Also on January 3, “Radio Star,” the French movie which won 3 prizes at Alpe d’Huez International Comedy Film Festival 2012 will also be screened at L’ Espace. The 100-minute movie directed by Romain Levy will be showcased in French with Vietnamese subtitle at 8pm.

- An exhibit showcasing photos and statues of legendary general Vo Nguyen Giap to mark his 100-day death commemoration is running in the capital city through January 7. The exhibit, going on at 45 Trang Tien, features 103 black and white and colored photos of the general.

Ho Chi Minh City

- One day after being screened in Hanoi, “Radio Star” will be brought to HCMC audiences at Idecaf at 3pm on January 4. Tickets cost VND30,000 for the screening at 28 Le Thanh Ton Street in District 1.

- A festival to celebrate the 30th birthday of Tuoi Tre Cuoi, the satirical magazine of Tuoi Tre Newspaper, will take place all day long at Sai Gon Zoo from 9am on January 4. The event will consist of exhibitions showcasing the magazine’s path of development, caricature booths, music performances, comedies, laughter yoga class, and the award ceremony of Cu Neo Vang – a satire award granted by Tuoi Tre Cuoi.

- Hot Tzigani Project band will give bring a night of Gypsy music and jazz to town with their show at 8:30pm on January 3 at 79/2/5 Phan Ke Binh Street in District 1. The band’s music is inspired by French and Eastern European music.

Nationwide

- This year’s Vietnamese version of the “Dancing with the stars” reality show is set to air on VTV3 starting Jan 4, 2014. The show, which will be broadcast at 9pm every Saturday, features nine local showbiz celebrities and a famed footballer.

- A number of blockbusters including “Disney’s “Frozen,” “47 Ronin,” “The Hobbit 2,” and “Tarzan” are screening in cinemas across the country, offering more choices for entertainment in the weekend.
