Vietnam will participate in a naval exercise beginning late this month in Indonesia, which will also involve the U.S., China, and Russia, Vietnamplus, a subsidiary of the official Vietnam News Agency, reported on its website on Monday.

Lieutenant General Tran Quang Khue, a Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, has checked the Vietnamese Navy’s readiness for its participation in the Komodo multilateral naval exercise that will kick off on March 29.

Lieutenant General Khue heard reports on exercise contents that Vietnam will engage in the drill on Sunday in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa.

The official also inspected hospital ship HQ-561, which will be sent to the event.

Besides the drill, the country will also take part in fringe activities such as sports games and cultural exchanges.

Highly appreciative of the preparations by the Navy, Lieutenant General Khue asked all forces to try their best at the exercise to fulfill all of the set targets.

Under the theme “ASEAN Cooperation Navy for Stability,” the Komodo exercise will take place until April 3, focusing on naval humanitarian aid and disaster relief operations.

The event will include participants from the ASEAN countries, China, the United States, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, India, the Republic of Korea, and Japan, according to an Indonesian news website.
