Tuesday, December 31, 2013, 16:08 GMT+7

The Ministry of Education and Training is seeking local candidates for a number of scholarships, sponsored by Brunei’s government, for undergraduate and graduate programs in that Southeast Asian country next year.

The Brunei government will provide scholarship winners with full tuition, return air tickets, monthly expenses, health insurance, learning materials, and others.

They are expected to begin their studies at one of three following higher education institutions: Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, and Institut Teknologi Brunei in July or August.

Training courses last three years for doctoral programs, one to two years for master’s degrees, three years for graduate medical certificates (applicable at Universiti Brunei Darussalam), and four years for college degrees.

Selected applicants must commit themselves to returning to work in Vietnam after they graduate from these courses.

Those applying for undergraduate grants must be freshmen or sophomores and aged between 18 and 25 on July 31, 2014. Their high school grade point average must be at least 7.0 on a 10-notch scale.

Applicants for graduate fellowships are required to have a bachelor’s or master’s degree, with a minimum GPA of 6.5, and to be 35 years old at the most on July 31, 2014.

Both types of candidates must demonstrate a good command of English, which will be the medium of instruction at the above schools.

High priority will be given to those candidates who have secured certain achievements in scientific research, collected local and international academic prizes, and qualify for national affirmative action policies.

Vietnamese living in Brunei cannot apply for this scholarship.

Applications must be submitted online at http://tuyensinh.vied.vn and in hard copy to the ministry’s International Education Development office at 21 Le Thanh Tong, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi by January 11.
