-- U.S. President Barack Obama met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Monday afternoon, in the last official activity of his first day in Vietnam.

-- U.S. President Barack Obama and members of his delegate enjoyed bun cha (rice noodles with grilled pork and meatballs) at a well-established eatery for dinner on their first night in Hanoi on Monday.

-- Vietnam’s State President Tran Dai Quang and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama adopted Monday a joint statement in Hanoi, in which both sides agreed to work together to advance the comprehensive partnership in strengthening political and diplomatic ties, fostering economic relations and deepening people-to-people rapport, among other areas.

-- The International Labor Organization, the United States Department of Labor and the Vietnamese government will launch a US$9.2 million project to reduce child labor in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the southern province of An Giang, they announced at a conference on Monday. Vietnam has at least 1.75 million child laborers, 67 percent of whom work in agriculture, according to statistics released at the same event.

-- Six out of the 12 burnt corpses of the victims of the deadly bus crash in the south-central province of Binh Thuan on Sunday have been identified via DNA testing, police said Monday.

-- Preliminary results of the national election to select members of the lawmaking National Assembly on Sunday show that it is likely the number of deputies elected would be fewer than the expected 500.

-- Vietnam Airlines will sign a contract to sell an 8.8 percent stake to Japan's ANA Holdings by the end of this month, after which it will seek to reduce the state holding to 75 percent, and later 65 percent, the national flag carrier said at an annual shareholder meeting on Monday.
