-- An Hoi school based in Go Vap district is dubbed the most populated primary school in Ho Chi Minh City with 4,320 students, 138 staffers including teachers, 57 classrooms, and 28 toilets. Parents of 40 percent of students are immigrants.

-- A Vietnam Airlines ATR-72 airplane en route from Hai Phong to Da Nang was found to lose a wheel in flight on Monday but it still safely landed at Da Nang airport.  

-- More than 17,000 Vietnamese nationals annually travel to Taiwan to receive medical care and treatment, said a Taiwanese official at a press conference about Taiwan Medical Tourism on Oct. 18.

-- Floodwaters and high tides continued to submerge many major streets and cause traffic congestions in the southern city of Can Tho on Monday. 

-- A robber on Monday went into a gold shop on Truong Trinh street in Ho Chi Minh City’s district 12 and smashed the glass cabinet where the jewelry is stored with a brick but he threw all he robbed into the street. He was arrested at the scene soon later.

-- A major street in Ho Chi Minh City will be named after legendary general Vo Nguyen Giap, who died on October 4 at age of 102, according to Nguyen Thanh Rum, director of the city’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

-- Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have just approved a US$0.5 million project to prevent flooding in the city. The project is jointly financed by a bank in Holland and the state budget.

-- Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has urged authorities in central provinces affected by recent storms and floods to repair damage left behind, according to a statement released by the Government office.

-- PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP) is ranked 1^st in the Top 1000 Enterprise of Tax Contribution in 2013. Vietnam Military Telecommunications Group (Viettel) and Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services Company (VMS) won the second and third place respectively. The annual ranking list is announced by Vietnam Report company and Tax magazine (General Department of taxation), and Vietnamnet newswire.

-- The European Union delegation on Monday signed a decision to fund EUR4 million to support its small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) seeking business opportunities in Vietnam.

Politics:

-- The sixth session of the 13th National Assembly was opened in Hanoi on October 21 with a big focus on important socio-economic development decisions.

-- General Director of the Russian news agency ITAR-TASS Sergei Mikhailov was received by Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang at a meeting held in Hanoi on Monday.
