Vietnam has sent 65,183 workers abroad for work in the past 10 months, a 13 percent reduction compared to the same period last year, the Overseas Labor Management Department reported.

Of these workers, 24,553 are working in Taiwan – Vietnam’s largest labor export market, 8,989 in South Korea, 7,006 in Japan, 5,092 in Laos, 6,675 in Malaysia, and the rest in other countries and territories, according to the department, which is under the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs.

The total number of workers sent in the 10-month period accounts for 72.4 percent of this year’s labor export plan, which aims to send 90,000 workers abroad, the department said.

As previously reported, South Korea has stopped receiving workers from Vietnam since early October because the number of runaway Vietnamese workers who overstay their visas to work illegally in the country has increased. However, 40 workers have been received again by South Korean employers thanks to their good behaviors. These workers flew to South Korea on October 10. These workers are considered “loyal” by the employers, since they worked for the same people during a period of four years and ten months and returned to Vietnam on schedule after their contracts expired.
