Saturday, November 03, 2012, 10:33 GMT+7

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee yesterday approved a plan to build a square and a park in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in District 2. With an area of 20 hectares, the square will be the largest in Vietnam.

The square will be situated by the bank of the Saigon River in Thu Thiem and will be opposite the Me Linh Square on the other bank of the river in the city’s downtown in District 1. The new facility will serve as an ideal place for political, social and cultural activities in the city. Along with the square, a riverside park will also be built on an area of about 9 hectares to meet the demand for relaxation and recreation of locals and tourists. Many attractive construction works and green landscapes will be created in the square and in the park, contributing to enhancing the distinctive beauty of the Thu Thiem New Urban Area. The city authorities have also adjusted the traffic planning in the area, including overhead roads, north-south axes, pedestrian streets and parking lots.
