On 10th May 2016, Lilly celebrated its 140th anniversary. The global, research-based company was founded in May 1876 by Colonel Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, the United States.
Colonel Lilly lived at a time when many, including his wife and one of his children, died of illnesses that today we can treat or prevent. Medicines were often unsafe and untested, and many people suffered from a lack of medical attention. Colonel Lilly set out to change that by bringing to the market safe and effective medicines.
From the very beginning, Colonel Lilly’s commitment – and that of the Lilly family – was to combine scientific rigor and passion for discovery with caring for the individuals and communities the company served – and to do so with an eye toward continuous improvement. This charge to “make it better” has driven and inspired the company every day, for 140 years.
In 2016 Lilly expects to advance its pipeline across multiple therapeutic areas, including diabetes, oncology, immunology, neurodegeneration and pain. Lilly’s determination is to advance the best science of the day, while at the same time finding better ways to support the individuals and communities Lilly serves – making a significant impact around the world, for another 140 years and beyond.
Lilly has persevered in efforts around discovery and caring, setting the stage for continued success in making life better for people around the world.
During the drug development process, Lilly might conduct 10,000 experiments to find one compound that has the potential to become a new medicine. The commitment and expertise of its 6,000 research and development scientists, who publish some 8,000 scientific articles annually based on their research, continue to drive forward the development of potential new medicines and contribute to society’s overall base of scientific knowledge.
On this occasion, Lilly Vietnam officially launched Lilly Corporate Website “lilly.com.vn” in both English and Vietnamese.
