Eight others were also injured, three of whom remain in a critical condition

At least six people have been confirmed dead and several others wounded after two passenger buses collided head-on in southern Vietnam in the early hours of Monday morning.  

The incident occurred at around 4:00 am on the provincial road DT 784 in Truong Mit Commune, Duong Minh Chau District, Tay Ninh Province.

A 16-seater van was traveling toward the center of Tay Ninh, about 100km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, when it slammed into a 35-seater long-haul bus, which was driving in the opposite direction.

Six people were killed instantly in the collision.

A witness said that the driver of the van was among those killed.

About eight others were also injured and brought to Tay Ninh Province General Hospital for emergency treatment, an official from the provincial traffic safety committee told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, before adding that three remain in a critical condition.

At the scene of the accident, the front end of the 35-seater bus was damaged, while the 16-seater van was severely distorted, with its roof and left side ripped open.

According to Tran Huynh Thanh, chairman of the People’s Committee in Truong Mit Commune, the van was carrying visitors from the southern province of An Giang to Ba Den Mountain, a popular tourist destination in Tay Ninh.

Local authorities are investigating the scene to determine the cause of the crash.

They have already provided financial support to the victims and their families.
