Vietnamese woman has 32kg cyst removed from ovary

Doctors from a healthcare facility in southern Vietnam have successfully cut a huge cyst from the ovary of a quinquagenarian.

T.D., 51, from the southern province of Hau Giang, is being treated at Can Tho City Oncology Hospital after having recovered from an operation to remove a 32kg ovarian cyst.

Due to the abnormally huge size, the cyst made the patient struggle to breathe, severely debilitating her health, doctors said.

As carrying out diagnostic imaging, doctors decided to perform an emergency tumorectomy as they found the cyst occupying all her abdomen, pressing other organs and about to break.

Surgeons drained roughly 20 liters of fluid from the cyst before taking it out of the patient’s stomach.

According to her relatives, D. first knew of the tumor in 2010 but she took some alternative medicines instead of seeking hospital treatment.
