Politic:

- On the occasion of the 14th Francophone Summit in mid-October, Vietnamese Ambassador Duong Van Quang, the Vietnamese President’s envoy to the Francophone Organisation (OIF) in France, has highlighted the country’s contributions to the development of the French-speaking Community. He highlighted the 7th Summit in 1997 hosted by Vietnam, which marked a milestone in terms of institutional building of the Francophone.

Society:

- Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department on October 7 detected a number of document and DVDs with depraved and reactionary contents. Among those is a book titled “Atlas of the world” violating Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty.

- The Prime Minister has approved a plan to turn Cat Bi airport in the northern province of Hai Phong into an international airport. The total investment for the 501.02ha-airport in the phase to 2015 is VND5,000billion (US$239.6million).
