Politics -- Vietnam applauded the U.S. House of Representatives’ first-ever adoption of a resolution that supports efforts to settle disputes in the East Sea by peaceful measures based on international law and the building of a Code of Conduct (COC) in the sea, Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Le Hai Binh said at a press conference in Hanoi on Friday.Society -- Typhoon Hagupit is forecast to hit the central Philippines tonight (December 6, Vietnam time) before entering the East Sea next Monday, December 8, with maximum winds of 183 kph. The storm will then move west toward south-central Vietnam and may strike the region afterward, the Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned on Saturday morning. -- The People’s Court of the southern province of Dong Nai on Friday sentenced nine people, most of whom are aged 18-22, to a year in jail each for causing public disorder and destroying corporate property during an anti-China riot that broke out at the Nhon Trach Industrial Park in the province on May 13. -- The Party Committee of the southern province of Ben Tre organized a meeting on Friday to consider the responsibilities of officials, both incumbent and retired, involved in the granting of land and selling houses in previous years to ex-chief government inspector Tran Van Truyen, who has been found committing wrongdoings related to the state’s housing and land policies. On November 19, 2014, the local authorities issued a decision to withdraw a land plot, at 598B5 Nguyen Thi Dinh Street in the provincial capital of Ben Tre City, which was unreasonably granted to Truyen in 1992. -- The People’s Committee of Ward 1, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, on Friday decided to send a boy, about 2 years old, who was left in a taxi by a woman on December 2 to a social center for care. The decision was made as many people have claimed to be relatives of the abandoned boy but none of them have been able to show legal evidence to prove their relation to him, ward authorities said.  Business -- Speaking at the Vietnam Development Partner Forum held in Hanoi on Friday, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that the Vietnamese government will focus its efforts on boosting the development of the private sector. He also said the government will complete the privatization of 432 state-owned enterprises in 2015.

-- The Vie-Pan Techno Park in the Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park in Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City, was inaugurated on Friday. The facility, which sits on an area of 13 hectares and cost US$31 million, is a joint venture between Japan’s Vie-Pan Industrial Park Co. Ltd., which holds 55 percent of the shares, and Vietnam’s Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park Joint Stock Company, which has a 45 percent stake.

Sports - Manchester City will host Everton in a match of the 15th round of the Premier League at Etihad Stadium at 12:30 am on December 7 (Vietnam time). City striker Sergio Aguero, who has scored 19 goals in the past 20 matches, is expected to create a victory for his team over their rivals.
