Thursday, January 09, 2014, 14:33 GMT+7

The Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology is recruiting candidates for an ASEAN-US program to conduct research in health, climate change, and other issues.

Applicants for the 2014 ASEAN Science and Technology (S&T) Fellows Pilot Program must have a PhD, at least three years of post-degree professional experience, and should be less than 45 years old.

Fellows can apply to work on one of the following fields: health, climate change, food security, early warning systems for disaster risk reduction, water management, and biodiversity.

Successful candidates will be provided with a US$1,500 monthly grant over twelve months, including wages, meals, and accommodations, insurance (if any), and transport for a one-week course together with other meetings.

The selection process will be coordinated by the U.S. Mission to ASEAN in cooperation with the U.S. Agency for International Development Regional Development Mission for Asia, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the ASEAN Committee on Science and Technology.

Applications must be submitted by January 18 to the Ministry’s Department of International Cooperation at 113 Tran Duy Hung Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi.

The program is intended to enable Ph.D. scientists – who are citizens and residents of ASEAN member states – to learn about policymaking while contributing their knowledge and analytical skills to their national governments in support of ASEAN S&T priorities.

It will support S&T Fellows to work for one year in their government ministries and institutions in their home countries to advance multilateral cooperation in Southeast Asia on science and technology, build institutional capacity within ASEAN and between ASEAN and the U.S. to study trans-boundary issues, and deepen personal interactions between ASEAN and American scientists.
