Tran Bien Temple, a Confucian temple in the southern province of Dong Nai, has been recognized as a national heritage site.
The recognition came from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Tran Dang Ninh, director of the Tran Ben Temple Center, said.
The nomination ceremony is scheduled for September.
The shrine, located in Bien Hoa, the provincial capital city, was built by Nguyen Phuc Chu, one of the Nguyen Lords, in Phuoc Chanh District, Buu Long Ward, in 1715.
Spread out over two hectares, the temple is meant to promote, preserve, and honor Confucian cultural values.
In 1861, the site was destroyed by the French when they conquered Bien Hoa, and was only restored as recently as 1998 at a cost of approximately VND20 billion (US$896,600).
The temple has since become a popular destination for visitors and locals.
