Politics:

-- President Truong Tan Sang has declared that the Vietnamese Party and State will facilitate businesses to develop and allow them to contribute to national renewal within the model of socialism in a recent reception speech for outstanding representatives of the Vietnam Association of Young Entrepreneurs on its 20th founding anniversary in Hanoi.

-- Leaders across the world have conveyed their congratulations to Vietnam ahead of its 68th National Day which will fall on September 2.

-- A ceremony to celebrate the 68 th anniversary of August Revolution and National Day of Vietnam has taken place in Beijing, China. Banquets have also been held in Laos, Russia, India, and Argentina to celebrate the Vietnam’s National Day.

Society:

-- Nine traditional craft villages in Ho Chi Minh City will be preserved and developed under a city program that will last until 2015, four of which do not have capability to develop on their own and needs government support.

They are Thai My village that makes bamboo baskets and furniture in Cu Chi District, Xuan Thoi Son in Hoc Mon District which produces bamboo baskets, incense-making Le Minh Xuan in Binh Chanh District, and salt making Ly Son village in Can Gio District.

-- Construction has just been completed on a major new flyover costing over VND180 billion ($8.5 million) at Hanoi’s at the Tran Khat Chan-Dai Co Viet intersection after six months of work in an effort to help the capital city alleviate congestion woes, especially during rush hour.

-- The tourism and hospitality industry will be one of the top 12 employers in Ho Chi Minh City by 2020, as enterprises in the tourism and hospitality industry in the city will need 21,600 more employees each year, according to the Centre for Forecasting Manpower Needs and Labor Market Information.

Business:

-- Instead of choosing domestic or international trips for the coming national holiday, many people in the city of Ho Chi Minh City have chosen to stay at home and go shopping at supermarkets and commercial centers in the weekends, significantly increasing the ailing purchasing power. 

-- Provinces involved in rearing and catching fish, including the central province of Binh Dinh, have called for foreign investment in the processing industry as they believe is a way of increasing the income of farmers who are paying high input costs. The People's Committee of the central province of Binh Dinh did that by organizing a promotions in the Japanese cities of Tokyo, Osaka, Sakai and Kyoto, calling for investment in rearing and processing fish, especially tuna, in June this year.

-- Officials from Vietnam’s Lao Cai province and Honghe prefecture of China’s Yunnan province have met at a recent seminar to discuss the protection of the rights of consumers.

-- Ho Chi Minh City Development Bank (HDBank) has got approval from the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) to acquire Societe General Viet Finance (SGVF), a wholly French owned company - one of the largest foreign owned consumer finance companies in Vietnam.

-- More than 100 Japanese businesses which are currently operating in Vietnam and 300 Vietnamese businesses have join the event called “Vietnam – Japan Trade Connection” recently held in HCMC.

-- The information that whey protein in Fonterra milk could cause botulism was recently denied by the Vietnam Competition Authority (VCA) based on test results released by New Zealand authority.

Lifestyle:

-- Vietnamese songwriter Quoc Bao, via his oratorio Lua (Silk), has established the Quoc Bao Foundation which aims to raise funds to support child cancer patients at Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital.
