The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology (VME) has been chosen among the 25 best museums in Asia by travel website TripAdvisor, the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism said Tuesday on its website.
According to TripAdvisor, the VME meets strict international standards for quality. The evaluation is based on the number of comments, and their content, given by tourists who visit the site to rank an Asian destination they have traveled to.
Museums are rated from one star to five stars, and for a tourism destination considered to be excellent it must reach at least four stars.
The VME, located in Hanoi, was ranked 4.5 stars, and thus placed 4th among the 25 most attractive destinations for tourists, the Vietnamese culture ministry said.
Most of the visitors said they had a great time at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology and recommended other foreigners to visit the museum when they come to Hanoi.
Bobbyjosing, from New Zealand, commented on TripAdvisor that the VME is a great museum where tourists are able to learn about cultural activities and the daily life of different Vietnamese ethnicities.
So far this year the museum has attracted around 200,000 visitors, 40 percent of which have been foreigners.
The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, located at Nguyen Van Huyen Street in Cau Giay District, displays around 10,000 artifacts, 15,000 photographs, and other materials related to the 54 officially recognized ethnic groups of Vietnam.
The museum was opened to the public on November 12, 1997.
