-- The Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG) Zone 4 High Command said on Saturday evening that the leader of the eight Indonesian suspects in the hijacking of Malaysia’s oil tanker Orkim Harmony last week has pleaded guilty to their crime. The pirates were detained on Tho Chu Island, off the southern Vietnamese province of Kien Giang, in the Gulf of Thailand after they escaped from the oil tanker, which was hijacked off the Malaysian coast on June 11 when it was carrying 6,000 tons of gasoline.
--The Environment Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security has recently slapped a fine of VND270.4 million (US$12,387) on Minh Dat Co., which is based in Binh Tan District in Ho Chi Minh City, for its violations of waste disposal regulations.
-- According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorology Forecasting, a system of low pressure in the East Vietnam Sea on Saturday grew into a tropical low depression, packing gusts of around 62-74 kph. Hoang Duc Cuong, the center’s director, forecast that on Monday the depression will move northward at approximately 10 kph. There are good chances that it will intensify into a storm.
-- Representatives of budget carrier VietJet Air (VJA) told Tuoi Tre (Youth) Newspaper on Saturday that Nguyen Thu Sang, who works for the Hanoi Ground Services (HGS) Co., VJA’s partner, has been suspended from work. According to the minutes between HGS, VJA, and the Noi Bai International Airport security force, a female passenger named N.T.V.A. checked in for a flight to Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday. Sang asked A. to split her hand luggage to meet the weight requirement, but the agitated passenger threw her identification papers straight at Sang’s face. -- Bui Thi To Trinh, vice general director of Suoi Tien Co., said on Saturday that over 400 metric tons of fruits of various kinds have been sold during the 2015 Southern Fruit Festival within 22 days, from May 30 to June 20. The sold fruits have seen a 15 percent rise compared to last year’s festival. This year’s festival will go on until the end of August at Suoi Tien Amusement Park in District 9, Ho Chi Minh City.
