The unidentified body of a young man whose feet had been bound with rope was found drifting on the Tien River in southern Vietnam on Wednesday.

Two hollow bricks were found attached to the other end of the rope, which authorities suspect were meant to keep the body from rising to the surface.

The body was discovered floating on the Tien River at around 9:00 am on Wednesday by Nguyen Thi Ty, 67, a resident of Binh Duc Commune, Chau Thanh District, Tien Giang Province.

The Tien River is the main northern branch of the Mekong River in Vietnam.

Ty immediately notified the police, who arrived on site to recover the body and perform an autopsy.

The man was estimated to be between 25 and 30 years of age and was wearing only a pair of jeans when discovered.

He had a tattoo on his shoulder and was carrying no identification documents.

The body’s feet were tied up with a green rope, with two hollow bricks typically used in construction attached to the other end.

According to police estimations, the man had died two or three days prior to the discovery of his body, which was already in a state of rapid decomposition.

Chau Thanh District Police are working to identify the body and determine the cause of death.
