-- Vietnamese-American Dinh Jason, 41, was sentenced to death on charges of illegal transport of more than 1kg of drugs at a Ho Chi Minh City court on Tuesday.

-- The Hospital for Tropical Diseases based in Ho Chi Minh City has announced that it received 1,031 patients with measles, including 345 adults, from the beginning of this year to April 22, 2014.

-- Relatives of those South Vietnamese soldiers who died in a 1974 naval battle with China and many overseas Vietnamese or Viet Kieu, including former South Vietnamese military officers, on Tuesday attended a ceremony held on Gac Ma Island, part of Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, to commemorate 64 soldiers of the Vietnam People’s Army who were killed during a Chinese attack on Gac Ma 26 years ago (1988).

-- A bus employee in Ho Chi Minh City has been killed after a fight with a passenger. Police in HCMC’s Tan Phu District announced on Tuesday that they are hunting for the culprit who killed 22-year-old Tran Hoang Lam, the bus staff.

-- Two sixth-grade schoolgirls went missing after falling down a waterfall in the southern province of Binh Phuoc on Tuesday.

-- More than 500 cannabis plants have been found on a 360m² paddy field located in Tan Dinh Commune of Lang Giang District in the northern province of Bac Giang, local police said on Tuesday.

Business:

-- Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Vietnam’s southern hub Ho Chi Minh City dropped by 0.04 percent in April compared to last month, according to the HCMC Statistics Office.

Politics:

-- A Vietnamese delegation from the Party Committee, the People’s Council, and the People’s Committee of Hanoi on Tuesday laid wreaths at the statue of Vladimir Ilych Lenin – the first leader of the Soviet Union – in Lenin Park in the capital on the occasion of his 144th birthday (April 22, 1870).  

-- National Assembly deputies held meetings with voters across the country on Tuesday ahead of the legislative body’s seventh session scheduled for May.

-- State President Truong Tan Sang received the Truong Son – Ho Chi Minh Trail Tradition Association in Hanoi on Tuesday on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Truong Son Soldiers (May 19). Addressing the event, the president expressed his expectation that war veterans and ex-voluntary youths will inspire young generations to dedicate their efforts to the development path of the nation. -- Complaints and denunciations must be handled in line with the law to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of citizens, said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc during a teleconference with ministries, departments and local authorities in Hanoi on Tuesday.
