With a determination to wipe out corruption and enhance transparency in State agencies, Vietnam will implement 24 anti-corruption proposals in the Vietnam Anti-Corruption Initiative Program 2013 (VACI 2013). These best initiatives were passed at the Final Round Competition of VACI 2013, which took place in Hanoi on June 12, with the theme “Strengthening transparency, public integrity and accountability, minimizing corruption”. Jointly organized by the Government Inspectorate and the World Bank (WB), VACI 2013 received 130 proposals from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), socio-political organizations, businesses, schools, and State management agencies. The event’s organizers said that about VND6.6 billion (US$314,285) will be funded for the implementation of the initiatives within 12 months. VACI 2013 is the second in the Vietnam Anti-Corruption Initiatives (VACI) series. The first was conducted in 2011 with 160 participating proposals, and the 34 best initiatives have been carried out successfully.
As previously reported, the Party Central Committee established its 16-member Anti-Corruption Steering Committee in Hanoi on February 4, under a decision of the Politburo.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the head of the Committee, asked each of his members to set an example for others. “All 16 members of the Steering Committee must be models in their uprightness, righteousness, self-abnegation and objectivity,” he said.
