24-year-old Quach Hoai Thuong in Bac Lieu southern province was detained for stabbing her father-in-law to death after she got caught up in a drunken brawl with her husband’s family on Sunday.

According to local police, when Thuong returned to the house of her husband’s family in Ba Chang hamlet in Vinh Loi district at 6:00pm on September 9, her paternal grandmother-in-law scolded her, saying that women should not drink alcohol but Thuong answered back.

Upon witnessing the quarrel, Tran Van Kip, 45, rebuked his daughter-in-law, criticizing her inappropriate behaviors.

Thuong threatened to beat him but the family members intervened timely. Being angry at the rude daughter, the father continued to verbally attack her, leading to the clash. During the fight, Thuong took out a knife nearby and stabbed her father twice in the heart. Kip died on the way to hospital.
