Belgian singer-songwriter Axelle Red will perform in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho this month as part of an across-Asia tour to promote her new album.
The 49-year-old will kick off her stay in Vietnam with a music evening at the French Institute in Hanoi on Saturday, followed by a performance the next day at the campus of Can Tho University in southern Can Tho City.
Red will conclude her three-day tour of Vietnam with a show at the Municipal Theater in Ho Chi Minh City next Monday.
The singer’s performances are being held with the support of the Embassy of Belgium in Vietnam, Hôtel des Arts and Air France to celebrate Francophone Week in Vietnam, which highlights the cultures of French-speaking countries around the world.
Red’s Vietnamese tour will also serve to promote her album Rouge Ardent (Ardent Red), which marks the singer’s 20th year working in the music industry.
Born in the city of Hasselt in northern Belgium, Red released her first album Sans Plus Attendre (Without Further Delay) in 1993 to immediate critical and commercial success, selling more than 200,000 copies in the French, Swiss, Canadian and Belgian markets.
Between 1993 and 2013, the pop singer released a total of ten albums, making her one of the most popular artists in her home country.
Outside of her singing career, Axelle Red is also a vocal activist for the rights of children and women in war-torn regions and developing countries, having been an ambassador for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) since 1997.
