Politics:

-- Vietnam and Russia have all the necessary conditions to bring two-way trade turnover to $20 billion by 2020, said Russia’s Deputy Minister of Economic Development Aleksei Likhachev told ITAR-TASS reporter in a recent interview when making a working visit to Vietnam.

-- The Central Highlands province of Kon Tum have reburied 23 sets of remains of Vietnamese soldiers combating in Cambodia during wartime which were gathered by the provincial Military Command’s K53 team in Ta Ven District of Cambodia’s Ratanakiri Province with assistance from local residents.

-- Bilateral ties between the UK and Vietnam have developed intensely in recent years, particularly following the establishment of a strategic partnership in September 2010, said Vu Xuan Hong, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organization at the third national congress of the Vietnam-UK Friendship Association in Hanoi.

-- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong visited and congratulated General Vo Nguyen Giap on the 102nd birthday of the legendary general at the 108 Military Hospital. On the occasion, Tuoi Tre unveils some unpublished photos of world-renowned General Vo Nguyen Giap on the occasion of his 102nd birthday.

Society:

-- Vietnam’s LGBT community event Viet Pride 2013 today attracted hundreds of homosexuals and bisexuals who paraded and participated in activities held at the HCMC Labor Culture Palace to support equal rights this weekend. Besides a parade, other activities including a talk show, photo exhibition, and movie screenings were also held on August 24th and 25th.

-- Dao Van Dong, a 26-year-old man in Binh Dinh Province, is suffering from a rare medical condition: a tumor on one of his testicles has grown extremely large while a thick, black, hairy patch of skin covers his body from the navel to the knee. His parents discovered a small lump in one of his two testicles but they thought it was not a very serious problem when he was 6 years old.

Business:

-- Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) in August surged 0.83 percent from July, 0.23 percent higher than the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s expectation of 0.6 percent. With the recently announced CPI data, the country’s inflation indicator soared 7.5 percent over the same period last year and 3.53 percent in the first 7 months of this year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

-- Vietnam's automobile industry has failed to reach its objective of selling cars at prices suitable to the pockets of the Vietnamese people, said Nguyen Manh Quan, director of the Industry and Trade Ministry's Heavy Industry Department.

Lifestyle:

-- The 11th Hoi An-Japan Cultural Festival has been kicked off in the ancient town of Hoi An in the central province of Quang Nam with numerous cultural and sports activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan.

Sports:

-- Vietnam's top badminton ace Nguyen Tien Minh has been seeded No 1 at the Yonex Chinese Taipei Open which will take place from September 3-8. He is also the only player in the world top 10 to compete at the event which is one of the Grand Prix Gold system organized by the Badminton World Federation.
