Ticket prices for all seats on Thong Nhat trains traveling between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will be cut by 10 percent in January to attract more passengers, the state-owned Vietnam Railways said on Friday.
The price reduction will be valid for tickets for trips between January 1 and February 1.
Vietnam Railways, which manages the railway system in Vietnam, lowered the prices of cargo transport on their trains on December 26.
A five percent price cut is now applied to cargo loaded at stations from Hanoi to Vinh, a city in the central region, for transporting to stations in the southern region.
Cement loaded in full train carriages for transport from the central city of Da Nang to northern provinces has had its transport fares lowered by 10 percent.
Charges for carrying containers in full compartments between the Hai Phong and Dong Dang stations in the north have been slashed by 20 percent.
Vietnam Railways has recently improved its services to attract more passengers.
It has offered home delivery services for tickets booked online since December 1 after it put an electronic ticket system into operation.
