Thirty-eight Vietnamese tourists trapped Friday in landslides, together with more than 60 others, in northwestern China’s Gansu Province have reached a provincial city in a neighboring province, according to China’s official Xinhua news agency.

Xinhua reported today that the Vietnamese arrived safe and sound in Xi'an, the capital city of Shaanxi Province, which borders Gansu to the west, on Sunday morning after they spent their Friday night in the latter’s Wenxian County.

The tourists got stuck in the locality on the way to Jiuzhaigou, a renowned nature reserve in neighboring Sichuan Province because rain-triggered landslides and mudslides had blocked traffic.

The Vietnamese nationals have canceled their travel plans, according to the agency.

Heavy rain has hit China's southwestern and northwestern regions since Monday, causing floods and landslides that have killed dozens and left more than 100 unaccounted for.

Chinese forecasters have warned that downpours will lash Sichuan, which has been hit the hardest by storms over the past week, on Wednesday while the province has reported at least 48 storm-related until now.

In another development, more than 500,000 people have been evacuated from eastern China’s Fujian and Zhejiang Provinces since Typhoon Soulik approached on Saturday after it had killed two in Taiwan, according AFP.

About 5,500 soldiers have been deployed to prepare for relief work when needed and almost 31,000 ships were called back to port and 20 flights cancelled, the French agency reported.
