Police in the central province of Nghe An have indicted two women for attempting to take four local women to China to be sold for US$11,300 per woman.
>> 2 Vietnamese indicted for selling 21 women to China Vi Thi Pon, 26, and Lo Thi Hoi, 19, both from the province’s Tuong Duong District, were arrested five days ago and charged with “trafficking in women” pursuant to Article 119 of the Penal Code, police said. At noon on October 2, a local police team caught Pon and Hoi while they were taking the group of women to the Vietnam-China border in order to sell them. The victims are Lang Thi Ha, 25, Ha Thi Yen, 20, Bui Thi Thanh, 35, and Lo Thi Nguyet, 28. They are all local residents, and three of them are pregnant. In order to earn easy money, Hoi and Pon colluded with a Vietnamese person named Hoa living in China to lure and sell Vietnamese women in the country, police said. The two women told police that Hoi would pay them VND180 million to VND240 million ($11,300) per Vietnamese woman successfully sold in China, depending on their age and appearance. Hoi and Pon had told their victims that after arriving in China they would be provided with well-paid jobs or given a chance to marry Chinese men. The two human traffickers promised their victims that they could offer VND60 million to VND80 million ($3,760) to each woman who agreed to go to China. The four above victims have been returned to their families, the provincial investigation police agency said. Police are expanding their investigation to track down others involved in the human trafficking ring, as well as other victims.
