Heatwave in northern Vietnam to end next week

Heatwave in northern Vietnam to end next week

Sunday, June 25, 2017, 18:14 GMT+7

Northern Vietnamese provinces are going to have rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday next week after prolonged hot weather conditions.

According to the Central Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Center, from June 21, due to the influence of a hot low-pressure area from the west, combined with the Foehn effect, there has been less rain in northern and central Vietnam but temperatures have again risen.

However, in the northern highlands it is still raining and thunderstorms happen at night and in the morning.

It rains moderately and heavily in some places, with rainfall topping 162.3 mm in Thai Nguyen City, which is the capital of Thai Nguyen Province, and flooding many streets on Friday.

In addition, a slight heatwave attacks the northwest region of Vietnam, some areas in the northeast region and the plain region, Hanoi.

The highest temperature ranges from 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, with some localities reaching 36-37 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the hot spell will widen in Thanh Hoa and Phu Yen Provinces. Temperatures are predicted to hit 35-37 degrees, some areas higher than 37 degrees Celisius.

On June 25 and 26, the hot low-pressure system from the west and the Foehn effect will be stable in northern and central Vietnam. In that fashion, the heatwave continues to cover the above areas.

There is a high possibility that at night and on the morning of June 27, there will be rain and scattered thunderstorms in the north. After that, showers will spread to the central part of Vietnam.

The hot weather in northern Vietnam and the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue will then come to an end.

But it will be slightly hot in some places of the provinces and cities from Da Nang to Phu Yen.
