Vietnam and Russia will cooperate closely to arrange an upcoming Vietnam visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Nguyen Duc Thang, deputy spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, said at a press briefing on Thursday.

The Russian president accepted the invitation from General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong to pay an official visit to Vietnam during a phone talk on Tuesday.

The two sides reached a consensus to jointly arrange a suitable time for the visit, Thang affirmed.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said that the timing of Putin’s visit is being put on the table by the two sides.

During the two leaders’ talk, Party chief Trong underscored that Vietnam treasures the great support from Russia over the past decades.

Vietnam considers the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia one of the former’s top priorities in its diplomatic strategies, he asserted.

President Putin affirmed that Vietnam is always a friend and a reliable partner of Russia.

The Russian president also expressed his pleasure to see enormous achievements from the bilateral ties.

The two leaders agreed to continue fostering multifaceted cooperation during their talk.

President Putin traveled to Vietnam four times, with his latest visit in 2017, when he attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, which was held in the central city of Da Nang.

Thang also announced at the press briefing that Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai will lead a delegation to the U.S. from March 30 to April 8 to attend the Vietnam Executive Leadership Program and other activities.

His working trip is aimed at deepening the Vietnam - U.S. comprehensive strategic partnership.

Vietnam and the U.S. announced the elevation of their bilateral relations to the highest level in the Southeast Asian country's international relations, following talks between Party chief Trong and U.S. President Joe Biden in Hanoi in September last year.

In addition, Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son will pay an official visit to China on April 3 and 4 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
