The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Ho Chi Minh City is celebrating its 160th founding anniversary by offering free admission tickets to all zoo-goers born in March.

A representative of the zoo told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Tuesday that to mark its establishment on March 23, 1864, the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens is holding a series of programs to send its gratitude to residents in the southern metropolis and tourists for their support.

Apart from free March birthday entry passes, the zoo will give key rings bearing its logo to zoo-goers on March 23 and 24.

Specially, those who were born on March 23 will be presented with an additional meaningful gift.

Built in 1864, the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens stands as one of the eight oldest zoos globally.

The zoo is home to over 2,000 animals with 135 species.

Among rare species are crested argus, red-shanked douc, yellow-cheeked gibbon, Indian hog deer, and Asian golden cats.

The zoo also houses more than 2,500 plants.

Over the past few years, the zoo has welcomed several babies of rare species born in captivity.
