Politics -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday asked Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Quoc Cuong to convey his condolences and sympathy to the family of Le Thi Nhat Linh, a nine-year-old Vietnamese girl who was murdered in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture, in late March.  -- Vietnam and China held the 10th meeting of the countries’ Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation in Beijing on Monday, when both sides discussed and agreed on the focal points of their cooperation to promote the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

-- Sri Lanka wishes to receive more Vietnamese investors in such fields as seafood and informatics and technology, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is on an April 16-19 visit to Vietnam, said at a conference in Hanoi on Monday.

-- A Hanoi woman who was kicked out of a Vietjet plane for verbally attacking flight attendants earlier this month is facing a flight ban of up to six months for refusing to pay the VND4 million (US$180) administrative fine for her inappropriate act.  -- The administration of the northern province of Vinh Phuc has come under scrutiny for earmarking VND54 billion ($2.41 million) from the local budget for gifting each of its residents a tea set in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the province's re-establishment earlier this year. -- A senior student in the southern province of Binh Duong was heading home after her part-time job on a motorbike when she was crushed to death from behind by a concrete mixer on Monday.Business -- Saudi Arabia last week levied a temporary ban on the imports of live birds, hatching eggs and chicks from Vietnam over concerns about avian flu, a move an official from the Vietnamese Department of Animal Health said on Monday has no effect on the Southeast Asian nation as it has not exported live poultry to any country yet. -- More than 7,050 flights operated by Vietnam's airlines missed their schedules in the first quarter of this year, with Jetstar accounting for the most delayed services, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said on Monday.Lifestyle -- The annual Week of Ha Long Tourism 2017 is scheduled for April 28 to May 7, with the decade-long traditional Carnaval street festival to be replaced by an art performance, the organizers told reporters on Monday. -- Vietnam will host the final pageant of the 2017 Miss Grand International from October 4 to 25, the organizers announced at a press conference in Hanoi on Monday.

-- Visitors to the Ho Chi Minh City Book Street will be able to buy books at zero dong during the ‘golden hour’ from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, as part of a series of activities to celebrate the Vietnam Book Day (April 21).
