Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang on Friday presented insignias "For the Sake of Natural Resources and the Environment" to two Japanese officials in honor of their great contributions to environment programs in Vietnam. The honorees are Michio Daito, energy counselor at the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam, and Mutsuya Mori, head of research team for the SPRCC under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The two officials have enthusiastically supported the Vietnamese Government in implementing environment programs funded by foreign donors, Minister Quang said at the insignia awarding ceremony.

Prominent among these programs is the Support Program to Respond to Climate Change (SPRCC), which was launched in 2009 and has the highest number of donors compared to the others.

The SPRCC has achieved very good outcomes and Mr. Mutsuya Mori has greatly contributed to the program’s success, Minister Quang said.

Meanwhile, with the support of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam in general and energy counselor Daito Michio in particular, the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) has signed two memorandums of understanding on cooperation with two Japanese ministries.

One of the MoUs was signed with the Japanese Ministry of Economics, Trade and Industry on July 7, 2013, and the other was inked with the Japanese Ministry of the Environment on December 13, 2013.

“It is thanks to enthusiastic assistance of Mr. Michio Daito that the relations between the MONRE and its Japanese partners have developed very well. He has been acting as an effective bridge between the two sides,” Minister Quang said.

The minister expressed his hope that the two Japanese officials will continue to give supports to MONRE, especially in treating environmental pollutions and coping with climate change.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Michio Daito said he and other relevant Japanese officials will continue to offer assistance to the MONRE, contributing to deepen the relations between Vietnam and Japan.
