These young people have just come back from the U.S., France, Australia, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Russia, Ukraine, and Cambodia.

Their visit is part of the “Biển Xanh Quê Em” (“My Home Country’s Blue Seas”) program run by the Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs.

The overseas Vietnamese attended a national flag-raising ceremony, visited Naval Brigade 171’s warships, and talked with the unit’s soldiers and officers.

Major Pham Ngoc Qui, head of the Propaganda and Education Commission of the brigade, briefed the visitors on the history of the Vietnam People’s Navy, the country’s irrefutable sovereignty over the Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagos, and the sentiments of overseas Vietnamese around the word toward their homeland. In talking with the young people during their visit, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hanh, deputy chairwoman of the committee, said, “I am very touched to be here with you, overseas Vietnamese, today to take part in a national flag-raising ceremony on our fatherland.” She also expressed her belief that after their visit, the love for their homeland – Vietnam – will become bigger and deeper in their hearts. Nguyen Dang Hung Nguyen, a Vietnamese living in Belgium, said, “I was born in Belgium but I return to Vietnam once every year. My father is a native of the central city of Hue while my mother was born in Rach Gia town of southern Kien Giang Province.” Nguyen said he was moved to see Vietnamese naval ships for the first time during the visit. “After returning to Belgium, I will tell my family and friends about what I have seen and heard here.”  On this occasion, the Khăn Quàng Đỏ (Red Scarf) newspaper presented 50 gifts to officers and soldiers of the brigade.
