When seeing beggars in a beach city in south-central Vietnam, one can report it to local authorities to have a chance to gain some monetary benefits, officials have announced.
Residents in Nha Trang, which is the capital of Khanh Hoa Province, are encouraged to notify officials at the people’s committee of the nearest commune or ward whenever they find wanderers or beggars, according to a campaign approved Friday by the provincial People’s Committee.
The first to give the right tip-off will be granted VND100,000 (US$4.5), officials said in the campaign.
Such reports can also be provided via 0583.525440, a hotline operated by a group responsible for gathering these people.
According to the campaign, which aims to wipe wanderers and beggars off Nha Trang Streets by 2020, these people will be transferred to a social support center.
Those who will be sent to the center also include money or food beggars in any form like singing and dancing, individuals pretending to be wandering pilgrims, homeless, mentally ill wanderers, and the like.
