STAR Vietnam: ‘Reliability and superior quality are our secrets’

STAR Vietnam: ‘Reliability and superior quality are our secrets’

Thursday, October 29, 2015, 07:48 GMT+7

Advertorial STAR Vietnam has established its position as a leading translation company in Vietnam and in the world with strong commitment to the utmost quality for service. Its quality work has landed it some of the toughest and most important assignments like the translation of Microsoft’s products, SAP Germany’s online systems and Piaggio’s customer manuals into Vietnamese.

We sat down with William A. Meyer, STAR Vietnam’s Director General, to talk about the company’s formulas for success.

What is the secret behind STAR Group's success so far?

Our emphasis on superior quality, reliability, and comprehensive support for our client’s needs is our strength.

We focus on supporting the entire information life cycle process (content creation, illustrations, translation, localization and publishing), providing a one-stop solution for all our clients’ documentation and communication needs.

How did you gain the trust of big corporations like SAP, Microsoft, IBM, Daimler, HP, Sony, John Deere, Procter & Gamble, etc. to have their key products' materials translated by Star Vietnam?

The STAR Group worldwide has a long track record as a trusted, reliable partner and has many long-standing relationships with large international corporations.

When STAR Vietnam was founded in 2008, we benefited from these long-standing relationships and have been successful in living up to the good name of the STAR Group through our quality and reliability in dealing with the needs of the group’s clients for translation into the Vietnamese language.

Since the founding, we have expanded our customer base both locally and on the world market, again due to the reputation we have become a world-class translation service provider.

Many technology and technical terms don't have equivalents in the target language, say Vietnamese. How has Star Vietnam dealt with this?

This is an important challenge we face with the Vietnamese and other Asian languages, as most of the newer technological developments over the last years have come out of the U.S. and Europe, and there may not be equivalent terminologies in local Asian languages, including Vietnamese.

Here in Vietnam we are fortunate to benefit from the knowledge and experience of a team of seasoned engineers, academics, and experts, who brainstorm with our translation teams to agree on the most precise and suitable terms for such cases.

How important is technology in your translation workflows?

The use of our translation memory system STAR Transit NXT for professional translations is key to the efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality we offer our clients: The basic concept is to conduct both new and follow-up translations based on previous translations that have been evaluated and validated. Thus, the translator can truly focus on new content, while the computer takes responsibility for the rest of the work. On the one hand, this reduces the time and costs involved. On the other hand, this increases the quality and consistency of the target-language text.

The translation memory system Transit has been on the market for over 25 years and is constantly being refined in order to stay a step ahead of the current trends in the translation industry. We maintain our focus on user experience through dialogues with our user groups, industry clients, and even freelancers. STAR Group extensively uses Transit in-house before market releases, ensuring that our innovations are practical and productive.

What is your next plan for business in Vietnam?

As the economy of Vietnam develops drawing more and more foreign companies to be active in the Vietnamese market, and as more local companies expand their activities internationally, we see an ever-growing need for the support we can provide for the success of our clients.

We continue to offer comprehensive language and technology to our clients and look forward to a bright future of growth as the development of Vietnam’s economy continues.

STAR Group will present its software to two universities here in Ho Chi Minh City. Can you elaborate on this?

As local universities have expressed interest in integrating computer-aided translation software tools into their translation-related curriculum, we have decided, on the occasion of the visit of Mr. Josef Zibung, the President of the STAR Group, to Ho Chi Minh City, to donate the STAR Transit NXT suite of translation software tools to two universities as our contribution to the development of translation-related study in Vietnam’s educational institutions. STAR Vietnam will be providing full support for the related faculties in implementing and training faculty staff in the uses of these state-of-the-art tools in the translation process.

Thank you for your time!

STAR Software Translation Artwork Recording AG (STAR AG) was founded as a technical language service provider in Switzerland in 1984. Since then, the STAR Group has expanded globally and is now represented with 51 locations in over 30 countries. Star Group’s project managers, translators, and experts possess in-depth knowledge and experience of their local markets.
