More than 1,000 passengers arriving on international flights to Vietnam were stranded at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi due to a computer malfunction at the immigration office on Friday afternoon.

According to a passenger arriving from Singapore, the long line of waiting passengers started to form at around 5:15 pm at the airport’s Terminal T2.

As more outbound planes continued to arrive at the airport, the number of passengers waiting to pass through the immigration office kept increasing, totaling more than 1,000 people at peak time.

Many passengers were so exhausted that they had no choice but lying down on the floor.

Some of the passengers became slightly irritated as they were not informed of what caused the bottleneck at the immigration office.

“I had to wait for a long time before hearing the announcement that there was a computer failure which caused the delay,” a female passenger said.

At around 7:00 pm, the number of waiting passengers started to decrease as the computer system was back to operation.

The long line of stranded flyers eventually diminished at around 8:00 pm the same day.
