A cold front is entering northern Vietnam on Monday, ending the hot days there and bringing cool weather back again, with low temperatures expected to drop to 14 degrees Celsius during the week, the national weather agency said the same day. The strong cold spell, will first cover northeastern provinces this evening and then northwestern areas before reaching the central region, the center said. It will bring rain and thunderstorms to the northern region as of Monday evening and spread cold weather that will last until Friday, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said. The low temperatures in northern provinces will drop to 14-18 degrees Celsius, the center said, adding that the coldest weather will be seen in northwestern provinces. Such northern mountainous provinces as Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, and Bac Can will likely suffer from hail, squalls and strong winds as of Monday afternoon. As of Tuesday afternoon, the Gulf of Tonkin and the northern area of the East Vietnam Sea, including the waters of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, will see winds of 39-49 kph and squalls up to 74 kph. From Tuesday on, the north-central region from Thanh Hoa to Quang Binh Provinces will experience rain and thunderstorms, and undergo cold weather at night and early in the morning. The weather is warmer farther south, with no rain in the coastal area from the central city of Da Nang to the south-central province of Binh Dinh, and little cold at night and early in the morning. Meanwhile, most of the south-central area, the Central Highlands and the southern region will remain dry, worsening the drought and water shortage, the center said.
